Eva + Kyle

(as seen on Green Wedding Shoes)

There are a few things these two love most in the world and they figured a wedding would be the perfect place to celebrate them. They have nothing but mad love for

each other

their people

their neighbhourhood

so they built their wedding day around honouring + celebrating those three things.

...exploring East Vancouver and showing their friends + family the best time.

Eva, one of our planners + her now-husband Kyle wanted to spend as much time together on their day, so they started their morning off together, but as it took Eva 2 hours longer to get her hair done than Kyle (girlfriend has a lot of hair!), K took off to go bowling over on Commercial Drive.

So even though they "got ready" together they still got a first look - the moment where the bride + groom see each other for the first time on the day before the wedding kicks off-

Which Kyle nearly ruined because he turned around too soon.

its our filosophi that you do you.

even if you think your people won't get it.

Before Eva + Kyle got married they had long been convinced that their people - friends + family - understood they were really, really cool in theory.  But E + K also harboured the suspicion that their people also thought they were a little weird + liked things because they were cool not because they were good.

They decided that their wedding was finally going to be a chance to showcase everything they love and convince their people that their coolness went beyond theory.

So they employed the biggest secret in the game-

they picked some rad vendors who were doing cool things

gave them hints as to what their personal aesthetic + tastes

and then told them

ok. blow us away.

And especially, blow the minds of our guests.

and then their vendors did.

Vancouver is wildly full of creative + brilliant wedding vendors who can do anything. They can even make believers of the hotels-and-wineries-are-the-best-wedding-venues and the are-you-seriously-getting-married-in-a-dirty-woodshop and the why-is-there-a-welder-in-the-background-of-your-ceremony guests.

Because when you get to share your passion + creativity with vendors, they get to share their passion + creativity with you too. They're in this business because they're creative + they thrill when you say, "hey, we love this thing we've never seen before..
do you think you can do it?"

you do you-

even if you refuse to serve wine.
especially if it's because you really, really love beer.

Eva and Kyle met on a beer drinking team.

Beer's kind of their thing.

So even though they were aware people might think they should serve wine they just felt it didn't fit the celebration they wanted to have. The Celebration of Eva + Kyle.

They wanted to have kegs of local craft beer + that was it.

However, they did want to make sure everyone would still be happy drinking with them (and while it may be sad, not everyone loves beer) and so they offered some other beverages too.

And to be honest, they don't love champagne either (it's possible to not love champagne, don't worry what people say you should do or like) - so they did tequila shots for their "we're married!" toast. Because that's what they wanted to do.

Their ceremony didn't follow the "usual" patterns either. They designed their own ceremony to represent themselves as a couple- they both walked in together + stood with their people around them. They laughed and held each other.

The guests started very quietly, respectful of the serious occasion it was-

So as she walked in, Eva yelled at the crowd,

"this is supposed to be fun! It's ok to make some noise."

Because your wedding can just be about you. You can walk in together or have your dad escort you, or you can start by mingling and just say "what the hell let's do this thing!"

You can serve wine or you can serve beer or you can have a brunch and keep it to coffee.

There's no one way to wedding just the same as there is no one way to love.

It's supposed to be fun. It's ok to make some noise.
